Custom Painted Lamp
This is a great way to bring some beautiful and unique décor into your home. In this example I wanted to brighten up a plain battery-operated table lamp. So, I chose to match it with Table Placemats that I had previously bought in a well know Homeware Shop

The first thing I did was to Map out my design in pencil. To be visual enough on the hard plastic that the lamp in made from, I had to use a HB pencil. This might not work so well on a ‘Glass’ lamp and is probably not advisable due to the possible heat from a filament blub.

I tried to improvise sections on the Placemat on the lamp around the lamp taking care to ‘Match-Up’ when I got back to the starting point. I used the ‘Darker’ shades as reference points to help me expand the design as I progressed around the lamp. When the whole lamp was mapped out and the basic colours were laid down, I let it dry and emphasised the colours and shapes in more detail. For this exercise I used Oil Paints but Acrylic Paints should work just as well but they will dry out quicker on the palette. If there is a lot of detail in your design this might be annoying!

I hope you enjoyed this exercise, and you can use the same process on lots of other items to match your own colour and pattern schemes.
